In this Kitchen Nightmares episode, Gordon Ramsay visits The Olde Stone Mill in Tuckahoe, New York.
The Olde Stone Mill was bought by Dean Marrazzo six years ago.
He converted the old mill into a restaurant.
All the renovation except for the electrical work was done by Dean himself.
The restaurant has been open for four years.
Dean doesn’t believe there is a better restaurateur than he is.
They have no customers coming to the restaurant.
Dean spends his time looking out of the windows for customers and Chef Michael has lost his passion.
There is an assisted living facility behind the restaurant.
Most of their customers are the elderly residents that live there.
Dean doesn’t know why they do not have any customers.
He is behind on his mortgage, he is finds it difficult to pay the staff salaries.
Dean says that he finds it difficult to provide for his family.
Gordon arrives at the restaurant.
He doesn’t understand why no one is coming to the restaurant as the building looks beautiful from the outside.
Gordon goes in and he is greeted by Dean, Tom and Jeanie, the hostess.
He comments on how beautiful the decor is and how great it looks from outside.
He says as the interior is stunning, it must be the food that is the issue.
Dean tells him that the food is good.
Gordon sits down to order from the menu.
He is told that the crab cakes are homemade.
Gordon orders the crab cake, shrimp, chopped salad, risotto and tilapia stuffed with lobster.
Thirty minuites after ordering, the crab cake is served.
Gordon describes the taste of them as strange as he tastes something like a sour mayonnaise flavor.
He doesn’t like the shrimp either as he doesn’t understand why you would ruin shrimp by frying them.
The chopped salad is bizarre.
He finds out that it was squashed into a funnel to get the odd shape it was served in.
Dean tells him aside from its appearances people actually enjoy the dish.
Gordon tastes the dish and he doesn’t like it at all.
The tilapia stuffed with is also disappointing and it is served in a brown paper bag.
The mushroom risotto is disgusting and the rice sticks to the roof of his mouth.
After tasting his dishes, Gordon meets with Dean and found out that the crab meat wasn’t fresh at all.
He asks Dean to taste his dishes and tells him they are all crap.
The next day, Gordon has a meeting with Dean and his wife, Barbara to talk about the financial situation of the restaurant.
Barbara says Dean keeps her in the dark about those aspects of the restaurant.
Dean keeps Barbara in the dark so she doesn’t have to experience the nerves and anxiety that he has been feeling.
Barbara tells Gordon that she chooses to leave Dean to deal with that aspect.
Gordon tells her that if the house gets taken away, then she would have every reason to be worried.
Gordon finds out that they lose money every week.
If the restaurant had to close on that day they would lose half a million dollars.
Barbara was shocked to find they are in that much debt.
It should be noted that at this time she is seen wearing a very expensive Burberry coat.
Two mortgages and home equity lines are been tied up in the restaurant.
It has been really difficult paying both the mortgages and salaries of the workers.
Gordon wants to observe the Saturday night dinner service.
The restaurant is busy and as the orders begin to arrive in the kitchen,
Chef Mike gets frustrated as he is the only one who works in the kitchen.
The dishes begin to be served about an hour into the dinner service.
The customers aren’t impressed with the food.
They complain about different things and dishes are being sent back to the kitchen.
The already behind Michael is now totally overwhelmed as he now has to deal with the returned dishes.
The pressure from Dean is not helping things.
Michael is forced by Dean to prioritize speed over quality.
As a result of rushing the food out more dishes are being sent back to the kitchen.
After the dinner service, Gordon meets with the staff.
He asks Dean if he has an idea how much damage he is causing by rushing the orders.
Gordon tells him that he needs him to take pride in what he does in the business.
The next day, Gordon decides to explore the local competition.
He notices there are lots of restaurants in the area but there are no steakhouses in the area.
Gordon meets with Michael in the kitchen and teaches him a new way to make the chopped salad.
The next day, Gordon meets with Dean, Tom and Michael and decides to reveal his plan for the restaurant.
Gordon tells then that there is no steakhouse in the town.
The Olde Stone Mill steakhouse has every chance of becoming a phenomenal place to visit.
Dean is skeptical about this plan as he doesn’t believe that it is going to get people through the door.
He believes changing concepts dramatically is a sign of weakness.
Its relaunch day and his design team had worked overnight to transform up the Olde Stone Mill.
He has added a sign in front of the restaurant so people would know that there is a restaurant there and not drive by.
They enter the restaurant and the dining room looks beautiful.
Gordon shows them the new menu for the steakhouse.
He teaches Tom, the front of house how to sell the new menu with a board of fresh steaks that they will take to customers.
Its relaunch night and the customers love the new look of the restaurant.
The restaurant is fully booked as the buzz about the new Olde Stone Mill Steakhouse has attracted everyone, including the Mayor.
The pressure gets to Tom and he starts struggling at the front of house.
Gordon meets with him and asks him to pull himself together.
Tom comes back and he is nervous and he starts sweating hard.
Gordon asks him to get to the bathroom and do something about it.
45 minutes into dinner service, only a few customers have been served.
The customers served love the dishes, but the rest, including the mayor are left waiting.
Michael says that he can’t get the tickets as the printer isn’t working.
Dean starts shouting at him, so loud that it is heard by the customers.
Gordon steps in and calls everyone together, gives them a pep talk and asks them to get everything back online.
The printer starts working and the dishes are being served.
The customers, including the mayor love the dishes that they receive.
The relaunch was a success.
The next day Gordon meets with Dean and tells him the problem with him is that he is scared of failure.
He tells him to stop being scared and to stop sidestepping problems.
Gordon then opens up about his failed restaurants.
Dean agrees that he needs to change as he can’t overlook things anymore.
What Happened Next at The Olde Stone Mill?
In the weeks that followed everyone stepped up.
With his passion returned, Michael's food is greatly improved.
Dean took control of the front and back of house.
Tom became more confident as a manager.
A barbecue was arranged to celebrate the 200th Anniversary of the building.
Dean is given the key to the city by the Mayor.
Gordon also reveals a light up sign on the side of the restaurant.

It looked like the restaurant was doing well with many satisfied customers.
Dean reported that business was up 30%.

ReplyDeleteWow, still open? Good job Dean.
ReplyDeleteIt's under new ownership, actually.
Deletei liked the steak house idea..to bad he changed it...but if he's still open then he must be doing something right...they have a nice website
ReplyDeleteWe've had dinner there for 2 special family occasions and found the staff to be very attentive and the food delicious. The atmosphere is very elegant and romantic. Definitely will be frequenting this restaurant in the future!
ReplyDeleteI don't know why they would make it into an Italian restaurant. There were already so many but not as many steakhouses. I think they should have kept the steakhouse. Or at least not make it Italian.
ReplyDeleteOn top of $ 1K Burberry coat the wife was sporting Van Cleef and Arpels necklace which costs $25K ...
ReplyDeleteMaybe that's why she was crying. Because she was spending like they had money and now she realizes she was part of the debt problem, but only because she wasn't aware of the problem. He wanted to be the rich man she had always dreamed of having. Not enough images of her for us to figure out how she would respond to pulling back her spending habits.
ReplyDeleteDean must have thought he was in an alpha male duel for territorial supremacy, perhaps even thought Ramsay was there to steal his attractive wife from him. Quite a buffoon to sign up for help but then behave as if Ramsay was sent by the local mafia to bully him.
ReplyDeleteSuch an egomaniac. Some guys don't have any pride, this guy's got far too much.
I just watched the episode Tonite, and I wish it was still a steak house! Yumm😋
