
In this Kitchen Nightmares episode, Gordon Ramsay visits 3 Southern Girls in Jefferson, Louisiana.
3 Southern Girls is owned by Gabrielle aka Gabi Smith.
She runs the restaurant with her sister Tia and best friend Monchel.
Gabi is from a line of chefs.
She learned to cook from her grandfather, who passed away recently.
Gabi’s son was in a dangerous car accident.
She closed the restaurant for 30 days.
That was enough to put her into debt.
She has not been able to catch up after the closure.
Gabi has not been the same since the accident.
Tia and Monchel see the quality of the food has declined.
The decline in quality is affecting the business.
Gordon arrives to meet with her son.
He explains his accident and how it affected his mother.
She continued to pay salaries even though the business was not bringing in money.
Gordon arrives at the restaurant.
There are customers but they tell him the food is not very appetizing.
Gordon meets with the staff but because it is busy, he orders food to go.
He is told it will be12 minutes to get his order.
Gordon has a portable table with tablecloth ready in his car for his order.
He waits for the food, sitting in the trunk of his car.
Over 10 minutes pass and the food is not ready.
All of the tickets are backed up including Gordon’s order.
After a wait, Gordon gets his order and eats it outside.
He finds the food uninspiring and in need of more seasoning.
The cornbread is flaky and the mac and cheese is made with processed cheese.
They forgot to add one dish from his order.
He goes back to ask for the gumbo and Gabi acts tired.
When service ends Gordon enters the restaurant to give feedback to Gabi.
Gabi is oblivious as she rates the food highly.
She says nothing is wrong with the restaurant.
Gordon sees Gabi’s grandfather’s picture on the wall.
He tries to use that to get her to open up.
She still disagrees with his feedback and is in denial.
For the evening service, Gordon returns to see how they perfom.
While in the kitchen he can't help but notice a broken sandwich station.
Gabi does not have recipes she follows for the dishes.
No one else can cook when she is not there.
The customers come in and orders come through.
Gordon notices Gabi is slowing everything down.
She is not communicating and customers are leaving without their orders.
Customer complaints come through on the dishes.
One customer finds only 1 shrimp in their plate of gumbo.
Gabi is still in denial as she praises her gumbo.
She does not want to listen to Gordon.
After service, Gordon sits with Gabi to learn her life story and try to connect with her.
Somehow it works and she explains how her upbringing.
She explains that her sons accident made her to be more controlling, which is tiring.
Gordon has his team start renovations while he takes Gabi to the Superdome.
This is the home stadium of the New Orlean Saints.
Football legend Craig Robertson is invited to give Gabi words of advice.
He tells her how to be a team player and rely on others to achieve her goal.
The restaurant space has been renovated.
There is new lighting and colours that make the space more inviting.
They also have new equipment including a working sandwich bar.
Gordon shows them the new menu items along with a recipe book.
Gabi can take time off and others can cook her recipes.
They taste the dishes and they are all delicious.
They spend some time setting up the space.
On relaunch, customers are let in including Craig Robertson.
Gabi’s mother, son and husband also come in to experience the new space.
Gabi is vocal as orders back up because this is still new to them.
She almost crumbles under the pressure.
When Gordon tries to help she is bossy with him.
She soon relaxes into her role.
Orders go out faster, with customers paying compliments to the food.
For the first time Gabi leaves the kitchen to greet the guests.
She receives praise for the food directly from the customers.
What Happened Next at 3 Southern Girls?
Two months later, Gabi delegates more jobs to the staff.
Business has increased with more customers.
She feels she is ready for the Superbowl to come to town.
3 Southern Girls is open.
Reviews are mostly positive.
There is praise for both the food and service in their Yelp Reviews.
