Kings Blu Jam Cafe - Kitchen Nightmares Update - Open or Closed?

Kings Blu Jam Cafe Kitchen Nightmares

In this Kitchen Nightmares episode, Gordon Ramsay visits Kings Blu Jam Cafe in Spring, Texas.

Kings Blu Jam is owned and run by Connie.

She opened the breakfast cafe in 2018.

At the time there was less competition.

That has changed and they are over $600,000 in debt.

Her daughter Justin also works in the cafe as a manager.

She is very outspoken and often clashes with her mother at work.

Justin believes her mother is too nice and the staff are stuck in between the two.

The customers also do not like the food.

Gordon arrives at the restaurant.

He sees a big drive-through window that is not working.

Gordon knocks on the window and is directed to the entrance of the cafe.

He orders a coffee while he takes a look around the cafe.

The furnishings are worn and the place looks dirty.

There are lots of flies buzzing about the restaurant.

Gordon orders some food from the huge menu on offer.

The server looks confused.

She walks about and then spills a tray of drinks on a customer.

Gordon’s food arrives.

He had ordered shrimp and grits, eggs benedicts and chicken and waffles.

The food presentation is poor and he thinks that the food is bland.

The freshly made biscuit tastes like it was microwaved.

The chicken is dry and unseasoned.

He wants to speak to the cook, Connie.

They speak for a bit about the issues at the restaurant.

Gordon learns about the debts of the business.

Connie is emotional and cries.

A customer is vomiting outside due to the food she had in the cafe.

Godon helps the customer and makes sure they are okay.

He closes the cafe and sits the staff down.

When Gordon asks what is wrong with the cafe Justin blames her mother.

He is shocked she is talking about her mother like she is a stranger.

Connie breaks down in tears.

Gordon asks to sit alone with Justin.

She admits she does not have a good relationship with her mother.

Justin is upset with her mother because she gave up her dream of studying to be a nurse to help her mother.

Justin does want her mother’s business to succeed.

Gordon wants to see a service and observes a busy lunchtime service.

He sees a Monte Cristo sandwich being made and he is confused.

The poorly made sandwich is sent out but the customer hates it.

Gordon sees there is no organization in the kitchen.

Connie does what she wants without communicating with anyone else.

Gordon decides to inspect the kitchen.

There are bits of egg in a vent and a grease trap full of oil.

In the walk in he finds old and rotten fruits and vegetables.

The kitchen is shut down after he finds live cockroaches.

They are hiding beyond equipment, where it is warm.

Gordon sends customers home with an apology.

Gordon sits down with Connie and Justin in the hopes he can make them connect.

He tells Connie she needs to face reality as her practices are losing her everything.

Her meddling is costing her not just her business but her daughter.

Justin is told to give her mother a chance.

They need to start working together as a family.

Connie says she is willing to change.

When Gordon leaves Connie and Justin try to connect on their own but they clash instead.

A producer chases after Justin when she says she wants to leave.

She eventually comes back to the restaurant.

Connie is tearful and remorseful and Justin pours her heart out.

Overnight, Gordon's team worked on revamping the cafe.

By morning the staff are gathered to see the new cafe.

The cafe interior has been updated to be brighter and more inviting.

They have stripped out all the booths and removed all the clutter.

The drive-through window has been repaired.

The kitchen has been deep cleaned and updated.

The staff cannot believe their eyes as they see the transformation.

They exclaim the kitchen looks so much bigger.

Gordon shows them their new grab-and-go selection for the drive-through.

The main menu now has only 26 items.

They can all be made in 3 minutes or less.

All the dishes have been made for the staff to sample them.

They sample the dishes and the staff love the taste of them all.

Connie and Justin are taken to the side by Gordon.

He tells both of them to take this as an opportunity to start again.

They need to have each other's back and communicate with each other.

They agree and the cafe is soon opened for the relaunch.

Connie will be in front of the house manager and not meddle in the back anymore.

Customers order from the menu in the cafe.

The drive-through is also open and serving customers in 90 seconds.

Justin is in the kitchen expediting but the cook Aaron is unresponsive.

Gordon and Justin are corrected by Gordon on the best way to communicate.

It does not work as Aaron is still checked out.

The tickets are all backed up in the kitchen.

She is frustrated and talks to Gordon.

He corrects her but she does not accept it and threatens to walk out.

Connie is called to talk her out of leaving in the middle of a busy shift.

She succeeds and Justin returns.

It slowly picks up as she expedites better.

The food that is sent out is well received by the customers.

Justin is pleased by the positive feedback.

She earns a hug from Gordon for pulling through.

Connie has spent the night not meddling so Gordon is happy with the outcome.
