Voleo’s Seafood Restaurant Kitchen Nightmares

In this Kitchen Nightmares episode, Gordon Ramsay visits Voleo’s Seafood Restaurant in Westwego, Louisiana.

Voleo’s Seafood is owned by David and his wife.

It is a second generation restaurant and his children work in the restaurant.

He took the restaurant over from his father.

Hurricane Ida hit the area so they had to relocate the restaurant.

It was an uphill task for them to gain the loyalty of the Westwego community.

The business is suffering as the footfall has dropped too low.

Gordon arrives at the restaurant.

He is seated at a table and given a menu with 100 dishes.

He notices how tiny the place is.

Gordon talks with Lydia about how the business has declined at the restaurant.

She blames the failure of the business on the people of Westwego.

She believes that they have not been accepting of them.

Gordon orders some staple dishes from the menu.

The gumbo arrives first but it tastes frozen and bland.

The seafood platter is an indistinguishable fried mess.

There is no compliment from Gordon on any dish.

David does not like the poor feedback about the food.

The restaurant is emptied and all the staff are seated for his feedback.

Gordon says the food and not the locals are tanking the business.

He encounters David’s stubbornness as he defends everything that is said.

Gordon meets with the community to find out if they do have issues with the restaurant.

They dismiss David’s opinions that it is personal.

They say they want to support him because he struggled when the hurricane hit.

They tell Gordon that it is the poor food quality that stops them coming in.

Gordon goes back with this information to watch the lunch service.

The food goes out quickly but there are lots of customer complaints.

They complain of undercooked food and fish being too dry or too salty.

While food is sent back Gordon checks on the walk-in freezer.

There is frozen cooked seafood and not fresh as they promote.

Gordon confronts David on his cooking and habit of microwaving frozen cooked food.

The service is shut down.

Gordon sits with the family again to give them more feedback.

He also tells them about the customers complaints.

David acts oblivious to what the problems are which frustrates Gordon further.

The cameras are sent away while Gordon tries to connect with them.

Somehow something breaks through but Gordon has to end the night.

He begins the next day meeting with David alone by the Mississippi River.

David tells Chef Gordon of his struggle leading, especially after the hurricane.

Gordon tells him the relaunch must bring some changes for the restaurant to succeed.

David jr has to be the face of this change.

Some time later, Gordon’s team remodeled the restaurant.

It is modelled after their first restaurant that was destroyed.

The revamp makes the restaurant brighter and warm.

Gordon also worked with David Junior to modernize and streamline the menu.

There are new dishes including crab cakes, BBQ jumbo shrimp and swordfish.

The seafood will change with the seasons and availability.

David loves the taste of the new dishes on the menu.

Gordon points out that David Junior created some of the dishes.

In the space is also a framed photo of the selfie David took with Gordon.

It was taken the one time David was caught smiling.

For the relaunch David Junior will be acting as head chef.

David is not going to be in the kitchen.

On relaunch, an NFL legend Robert Royal is invited.

He congratulates David on the reopening.

David is tasked with being front of house to connect with customers.

He is uncomfortable staying in one place.

Gordon is impressed with how things are going in the kitchen.

Some orders are incomplete and customers are left waiting.

David goes into the kitchen and makes comments.

Gordon notices him and distracts him out of there.

David tries to calm customers about the delay.

Soon after this the food comes out.

The service continues to be a success.
