The Vermont Inn - Hotel Impossible Update - Open or Closed?

Hotel Impossible Vermont Inn

In this Hotel Impossible episode, Anthony Melchiorri visits The Vermont Inn in Mendon, Vermont.

The Vermont Inn is owned by Samantha and JV.

The converted farmhouse boasts 16 rooms, a tavern and a 40 seater restaurant.

Samantha and JV are absentee owners.

Their brother in law Tim runs it with Jen, Samantha’s sister.

The Inn has no business and they are lost on how to turn it around.

Anthony arrives and he is stunned by the scenery.

The surrounding of the hotel is overgrown with clutter and junk in full view of the pool area.

The front of the inn is good but the pond is not clean and there are more weeds.

On closer inspection a lot is worn out from the door, to the window shutters.

Anthony meets Tim at the front desk.

He is shocked to find out that he does most of the work himself with some part time staff.

Anthony is taken to one of the suite rooms and is confronted by a hot tub at the entrance.

The decor is a miss and the bed is misaligned with a small tv that is too low.

There is a closet in the bathroom and the plunger is dirty and wet.

Anthony meets the owners and he could tell they had no hotel experience.

He is told they want to capture the tourist crowd and the wedding industry.

It is dire as they are losing money because of low patronage.

Jen is not happy with the business and location.

It is causing family friction.

Samantha tears up when talking about Jen but Tim wants to make the Inn work.

Anthony keeps exploring and is surprised by how good the restaurant looks.

He thinks that it would work well for weddings.

He thinks that they are losing money to payroll to the restaurant.

Anthony sits with Tim and he finds out he is wasting time and money on the restaurant as it is not profitable.

Anthony has an idea to market the inn as a wedding venue.

The interior designer Blanche is brought in to see the room and she is told to make it into a bridal suite.

She hates the carpet, the wall paintings and will be completely changing the room.

Anthony leaving runs into a housekeeper's supply station in complete disarray that can be accessed easily by guests.

There is also a closet with dirty buckets and unsanitary storage.

Anthony shows the owners all the problematic things he found.

Tim gets emotional as he is overworked and thinks it is all his fault.

Anthony sits with Tim and his wife, Jen, who has a baby and another on the way.

She complains Tim is neglecting his family life for the business and she blames him and her sister.

Jen wants them to sell the business but the rest of the owners believe it can work and so does Anthony.

Anthony checks in on Blanche and she is putting in new laminate flooring.

The walls are being painted neutral so it is already looking brighter.

Anthony gets Blanche to look at the housekeeper's supply room to help organise it.

Anthony checks in on the kitchen as it is lunchtime and there are no staff around.

He sits with the owner and proposes his plan to take pressure off Tim and find a way to make money.

He advises them to close the restaurant and use it as a venue.

They would be cutting off a money leak and they make more money from rooms.

Anthony brings in a wedding planner, Sabrina, to teach Samantha on how to organise the space for a wedding.

There is plenty of space with multiple options and a kitchen caterers can work from.

When discussing marketing it is proposed they host a wedding to get pictures for social media and the website.

They have to plan a wedding in a few days.

Samantha starts crying as it has been her dream for the venue to be a spot for weddings.

There is pressure on Anthony, Blanche and his team as there is a wedding in 2 days.

After this the family are gathered as Samantha has finally made up her mind.

She is going for the new arrangement and they are closing the restaurant.

Tim is optimistic and his wife is still sceptical that the Inn work will take over Tim’s focus.

Anthony sits with Tim and Samantha to discuss marketing.

He has arranged for Brides Magazine to come interview them before the wedding.

The day before the wedding it was raining and Sam called in more friends and family to help clean up the exterior.

Anthony shows the newly organised housekeeping closet which has shelves and is completely functional with a proper caddy.

Sabrina is back and she takes them through a walkthrough of what to expect at the wedding.

There is also a weather forecast for thunder showers on the day itself.

They are having tents with the tavern as a backup.

On the last day Anthony is pleased with the landscaping and exterior of the Inn.

Sabrina is working hard putting final touches to the wedding venue.

The Brides Magazine writer introduces herself and she will be there for the whole wedding, observing everything.

The weather finally clears up and it is looking up.

The owners are taken in to see the bridal suite that is open and clean with white furnishing.

There is a curtain covering the white bathtub where the hot tub used to be.

They all love the space and Jen and Samantha reconcile.

The wedding ceremony moves forward with the bride using the suite.

The wedding ceremony takes place with pictures that they can use to promote weddings.

After the wedding Anthony has a gift, which is the wedding picture already uploaded on their redesigned website.

The writer gives them positive feedback and she cannot wait to write about it.

What Happened Next at The Vermont Inn?

Some time later, it is revealed the restaurant remained closed.

The inn had a goal of booking 2 weddings in the fall.

Tim cut back his hours from 100 to 60.

The Vermont Inn is open.

Reviews after the show are excellent with praise for the location, service and cleanliness.
